Georgia Avenue NW Dedicated Bus Lanes will be Effective,
Fully Operational and Regulated by Law
Starting April 11, 2016
(Washington, DC) -- Beginning on Monday, April 11, 2016, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will begin operation and enforcement of the Georgia Avenue NW Dedicated Bus Lanes from Florida Avenue NW to Barry Place NW.
Only transit buses, tour buses, charter buses, school buses, active passenger service taxicabs, bicycles (NO pedicabs), paratransit service vehicles and authorized emergency vehicles are allowed to travel in bus lanes. Signage consistent with the operation of these bus lanes will be posted along the project corridor. Driving in bus lanes is restricted for all other motorists, unless making a turn at an intersection or driveway. When making turns, the motorist is allowed to enter the bus lane 40 feet prior to turning. Parking is also restricted within the bus lanes while they are in operation. The dedicated bus lanes will be in effect Monday – Saturday between the hours of 7:00 am to 10:00 pm.
A red, high friction surfacing will be added to the Georgia Avenue NW Dedicated Bus Lanes in late Spring 2016 to further identify them; however, bus Lanes will officially be active and regulated beginning Monday, April 11, 2016
Motorists are urged to follow new traffic patterns and adhere to bus lane regulations as fines will be imposed for failure to obey bus lane regulations.
